Well, it's incredibly moving. I was at the vigilant Pegasus Bridge last night, standing at the spot where one of the gliders landed to take that bridge. The sense of history, the sense of all. But at the same time for my generation, the sense of humility. We haven't had to do anything, like what our grandfather's generation did to fight for freedom, to put their lives on the line, and it's all inspiring. That gave you a sense of humility, but above all, that gives you a sense of extraordinary gratitude for what those amazingly brave people had done.

Many people thought that the 60th anniversary would be the end. But here we are on the 70th anniversary, there's still a spring on people's step and a joy in their hearts. So I've been coming back here, remembering what they had done and being welcomed, being incredibly welcomed by the people in Normandy, and of course, remembering what they have lost. What strikes me is that the French people here, though generations younger, still incredibly welcoming the people who came here to liberate them from Nazi tyranny.

It's right today of all days to remember all those who served and all those who died. And yes, of course, today we have our disagreements with Russia, but we should never forget that Russia, the Soviet Union was an ally of Britain, America, free French, Canadian, Australian forces that liberated this continent from the tyranny of Nazi, so that enabled the generations to come, to live in democracy and freedom and in prosperity. And that's really what today is about. The magnificent feats of arm saw young people get into gliders, jump out of aeroplanes, that get into landing craft, doing amazingly brave things to liberate this continent and gave us the chance of peace and democracy. And we did that together.
