Churston lying as it does between Brixham and Paignton, occupies a position about halfway round the curve of Torbay.Until about 10 years ago, it was mere a golf links and below the lines a greep sweep of countryside dropping down to the swa with only one or two farmhouse in the way of human oppupation. But of these years there had been big building developments between Churston and Paignton and the coalline is now dotted with small housed, bungalows, new roads, etc.
Sir Carmichael had purchased a site of some 2 acres commanding an uninterrupted view of the sea. The house he had build was of modern design, a white rectangle that was not unpleasing to the eye. Apart from 2 galleries that house his collections it was not a large house.
Our arrival there took place at 8am. A local police officer had met us at the station and put us au courant of the situation.
Sir Carmichael, it seemed, had been in the habit of taking a stroll after dinner every evening.
