Directions: In this part of the test, you will hear a passage and read the same passage with blanks in it. Fill in each of the blanks with the word or words you have heard on the tape. Every nation and region in the world has its own set of folk heroes. Sometimes, the heroes from   (1)   are strikingly similar. By folk heroes, we mean figures whose stories have evolved over time and whose legends cannot be   (6)   . Instead of being created by a single writer, folk heroes evolve through time and reflect the efforts and creativity of   (7)   . Of course, professional writers sometimes   (8)   folk heroes, just as those who create folk heroes often incorporate aspects of   (9)   into their stories. For hundreds of years, Americans have struggled to understand their place in the New World. There were   (18)   in the New World.
